My husband and I had a weekday off and decided to meet for lunch here last week. It was just as wonderful as I'd hoped! The menu had a good variety including vegetarian, healthy, and hearty choices. I love that you can pick two items and enjoy smaller portions so you can try more. I had their New Year's Black Eye Pea salad and a butternut squash pasta dish. They were colorful, delicious, and very filling. My husband did a 3 soup sampler and they were served in cute little flower pots with a hearty pasta salad side and toasts. They have beer and wine including smaller beer servings (so good for a lunch drink!) and the setting can't be beat. This will be my new go-to lunch spot to impress people. Can't wait to go back, just wish it was open for dinner, but love that it is open on Sundays.

Great place to have lunch with a view downtown. Based on the menu, it does tend to cater more to a female crowd. Soups, salads, one sandwich and a crepe dish were on the menu. It is plenty of food, but definitely not a meat and potatoes place! Don't bring someone who won't try new things. We were able to eat on the patio with a view of the gardens while enjoying lunch. Our waitress was attentive and helpful with suggestions. The food was both great to look at and great to eat. I had a combo with two salads. My lunch companions had soup and both raved about the taste. I always wish places like this would upgrade drinks and not serve soda out of a can. It seems like a small thing, but a watered down Diet Coke unfortunate. Our waitress asked if we wanted dessert and we said no. I am pretty sure if she had brought out the tray we walked past as we left we would have ordered some. It looked amazing. That was most likely a missed opportunity. I was almost willing to open another ticket for some to go, but decided we would get back to work. Unique spot for a lunch with friends.

An absolute treasure for a lunch spot in the heart of Des Moines. We had a company outing that started with lunch at the Trellis on a Friday afternoon. They were busy and after we ate we understood why people are flocking here. As a team we ordered several different dishes and shared family style amongst us five. The flavors were bright and well thought out. The chef at Trellis definitely understands how to put ingredients together to make a dish that leaves the diner wanting more. Looks like the menu is set for each month of the year and I would definitely make my way there before May is over to enjoy the Berkwood Ham Spring Vegetable Salad. The atmosphere is great, beautiful flowers and plants everywhere. We sat inside for fear of bees but the patio space looked very relaxing.

The botanical Gardens in Des Moines are always a fun place to visit! It's one of the few places in town to get away from the winter breeze and feel the warmth of the sun during the winter! Now not only is it a glass dome in the middle of downtown that looks like a mirage in the winter cold, but it houses one of the coolest new places to eat or have a drink in town as well! Trellis is a wonderful spot to bring a crew of people for brunch, lunch, or to sip a cocktail while exploring the Botanical Gardens. With all sorts of options from salads, sandwiches, soups, and pasta dishes there is truly something for everyone! Another rad thing is they using local food on most of the dishes. Weather you go in the winter or summer it's always going to be warm at Trellis!

My mom and I were looking for a fun place to have lunch when she mentioned she'd never been to the botanical gardens. I hadn't been there in years, so I suggested lunch at Trellis, followed by a little walk around the gardens. What a fun way to spend an hour or two! The Trellis space is just off to the left when you enter the gardens. It's a visually appealing space with plenty of seating and a lovely long bar with comfortable-looking "armchair" barstools. (Trellis has a nice beer and wine selection, if you're drinking your lunch.) There were lots of people enjoying a late lunch when we arrived, but we were seated right away. The menu is fairly limited - just a few choices in sandwiches, salads, pastas along with a kids' menu - but I still had a hard time deciding. Everything sounded so fresh and vibrant. I ended up ordering a half tarragon egg salad sandwich and a caprese salad loaded with strawberries, fresh mozzarella, pistachio pesto, tomatoes... You name it, it was on this salad. In fact, it was maybe a little unfocused for me with the abundance of ingredients - however, my mom declared it the very best salad she'd had in a long time, so I was probably just being picky. The desserts really looked lovely, but I'll save that for another visit. Of course, the best part about eating at Trellis is getting to walk around the botanical gardens afterward. I'd forgotten what a gem the gardens are - and I can't wait to see the results of the current renovation project! Trellis has very limited hours which means I probably won't be back anytime soon, but that's no reflection on them! I'm crossing my fingers that the renovations combined with the restaurant's popularity will lead to expanded hours in the future. Trellis would be an amazing spot for happy hour. Here's hoping!!

By far one of my favorite places to eat for lunch. Nothing too fancy, but everything is fresh, delicious, and flavorful! I've ordered different sandwiches, pastas, salads, and desserts and everything is always so good. The portion sizes are very large and the quality of food is very good. I love that the menu changes every month and that the chef keeps things seasonal. Very delicious food!

Ruined my family's chance of having a Mother's Day brunch because they strung us along saying we may be able to get a reservation... And finally the night before when I called THEM back, having never received the response they promised - they said SORRY, no. Thanks. A simple no would have allowed us to try to make other plans, but it was much too late.

I love love this place for brunch!! I was so sad when I went to the art museum and they were no longer there. I'm so glad to learn they opened at the botanical garden. Although the art museum location was better, I can't complain since I can still get fresh yummy food here and their amazing amazing special tea that has an orange in it. Love this place!!

A great spot for lunch, they have a interesting selection of salads, soups, sandwiches, and pasta, focusing mainly on global flavors using local food. My lunch was delicious and generous and am going to have to return to try their homemade desserts. It's located in the DM botanical gardens and when I was there they were still working on construction of the patio. Can't wait till it opens in the summer!
